Description: | Abridged and edited by H.A. Treble. Samuel Pepys was Clerk of the Acts of The Naval Office & Admiralty in 1660's. His original diaries filled six small volumes of closely written shorthand. It was handed over to the library of Magdalene College, Cambridge (Pepys' own college in 1724, where it remained undisturbed for nearly a century. Then it was deciphered and transcribed by the Rev. John Smith and published by Lord Braybrooke in 1825. A valuable historical document of life in 1600's. 284 pp. Frontispiece - engraved portrait of Pepys. Foxing on prelims and edges. Original olive green cloth boards with gilt lettering on spine. Black lettering and emblem on front board. Overall condition VG. No dust wrapper. |
