The first book devoted entirely to the mosses of Ireland is by eminent English botanist Dawson Turner. Here he describes 231 species from Ireland. The 16 hand-coloured plates containing 235 drawings by Sir William Hooker, mark the first extensive use of coloured plates in an Irish natural history book. Foxing on prelims and rear eps. Previous owner's inscription on ffep. Part of ffep torn and stuck to section at top of title page. Text clean internally except for some browning at outer edges of pages. Plates clean. Blue hard paper boards with brown paper spine. Front and bottom edges untrimmed. Spine cracked at edges and chipping away in places. Corners bumped and light rubbed. Overall condition Good+. A very scarce title..
